“I don’t like the ‘digital show’ solution,” said Domenico Dolce on the debut of Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2021 menswear, “The fashion show cannot be substituted with something on a screen. You need the physical contact, the human connection. Because fashion begins with people.” Yet, irony of ironies, the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2021 menswear appears most apt for the current state of work from home, socially distanced loungewear that has dominated our wardrobes in recent days.

Drawing reference from a collaboration with the Parco dei Prinicipi hotel in Sorrento (a 17th century building that employs blue tiling to blend into the Mediterranean), Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2021 menswear is essentially a summery blue, beach vacation look-book but where it excels is that with the majority of the world on work from home hiatus until we can get the covid-19 vaccine deployed globally, the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2021 menswear collection might as well double up as your style at home loungewear as well.

The halcyon days of Italian summer as envisioned by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana was on full display at the garden campus of Humanitas University, the educational arm of the medical group which Dolce & Gabbana has sponsoring since last year. But the focus is less on the venue and more on the form in which the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2021 menswear takes place; Dolce&Gabbana doubled was one of the first to return to pre-COVID-style presentations, with what few guests and models appropriately distanced of course (much like the Abloh’s Louis Vuitton Spring 2021 menswear show).

100 looks, comprising silk sarongs, dressing gowns, shirting, pants and of course, the recently revived double breasted blazers – mostly featured a visual leitmotif of the beautiful blue tilings in the Parco dei Principi hotel; suffice to say, sartorially beach appropriate but in many countries, since its illegal (or if not, just plain unwise) to head to crowded beaches, you’re not going to have much opportunity to wear the latest Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2021 menswear collection anywhere but home – and why shouldn’t you wear sarongs and dressing gowns at home, it’s almost as if these garments were meant to provide a more sensual experience indoors as you languish on the living room sofa or in the bedroom with laptop on lap.

A sensual take on Italian sartorial codes and seductive summer dressing, the cuts are relaxed; fluid tailoring translated physically into airy tees, partially denim sweatpants, and patched jackets with exaggerated shoulders and of course, the D&G “V” torso enhancing, hyper masculine signature flourish of tightly cinched waists.

“We want to give a positive message, a message of rebirth – it’s possible to start again, respecting safety measures,” said Giulia Piacentini, a spokeswoman for the brand, and the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2021 menswear quite literally proves, you can still stay at home in style since signores Dolce and Gabbana are happy to oblige with their latest menswear collection.

Dolce & Gabbana supports Humanitas’ COVID-19 research and guests of the Dolce & Gabbana Spring 2021 menswear show were also be encouraged to contribute.
