An architectural work that has stood the test of time, and evolved into an eternal symbol of the ‘New Look’ collection, the Christian Dior Bar jacket appeared in the revolutionary designer’s first ever haute couture collection, effortlessly sealing the success of the brand in 1947. Reimagined by Maria Grazia Chiuri, the single-breasted silhouette is crafted in a blend of black silk and wool.
The reinterpreted knit version, which debuted this year at the Fall-Winter 2020-2021 show, presented a challenge for the House’s ateliers, which developed no fewer than four prototypes in order to accurately recreate the volume and cut that characterizes the original jacket. Combining elegance with comfort, freedom, and movement, the Bar jacket continues to be an object of desire, casual style, and elevated allure.
Regarded a reflection of Dior’s ultra-modernity, this must-have reinterpretation features a notched collar, fabric-covered signature buttons and slit pockets that delicately highlight the waist – transcending fashion and generations, whilst re-affirming its iconic status in brand history.
