The arrival of spring signifies the renewal of life as flowers are in full bloom, proudly exhibiting their beauty to the world. The vibrate colours, delicate petals and ephemeral nature, have always inspired artists throughout the ages. The obsession to capture the essence of floras and fauna is a design troupe that never gets old—it’s eternal. And to encapsulate this fascination for Mother Nature’s creation, Van Cleef & Arpels have made it their mission to reflect this fineness in their collection of jewellery.

Last year, the French jeweller transformed their boutiques into a garden-themed sanctuary with the help of French artist Alexandre Benjamin Navet, where his artful designs filled the interior of the Maison. In continuing the theme of flowers, a temporary exhibition, “LIGHT OF FLOWERS”, will be held at Daikanyama T-SITE GARDEN GALLERY. Japanese flower artist Atsunobu Katagiri has created an installation taking inspiration from the fantastical world of Van Cleef & Arpels.

As we continue to navigate through the pandemic, the strong vitality of flowers is a kind reminder of the better times ahead where we will once again bloom again. The creations by Van Cleef & Arpels, whether it’s the Frivole or the Alhambra, are nestled within Katagiri’s masterful installation. Along with fresh flowers, the aim of the exhibition is to “highlight their ephemeral, beautiful life, creating a noble, light-filled universe.”

“I admire and even feel close to Van Cleef & Arpels’ vision of jewellery elevating natural flowers into miniature works of art. These precious creations, made by craftsmen who respect nature, render the flowers’ delicacy in an eternal form,” says Katagiri of the partnership with the French jeweller. “I look forward to opening this  exhibition which  stages  the dialogue between the Maison’s creations and my work with flowers, as Van Cleef & Arpels and I share the same philosophy and respect for nature.”

Apart from the exhibition, workshops and talks are also held. Head over to Van Cleef & Arpels’ Ginza boutique to catch a glimpse of the floral window display that Katagiri has done prior to visiting the exhibition.
