Britney Spears has posted on Instagram that she won’t perform again while her father has control over her career.

The 39-year-old is currently undergoing a legal battle over a conservatorship that has overseen her life and career since 2008, when she suffered a series of mental health crises.

Her father Jamie Spears has the final say over her $60m estate under the complex arrangement, which the singer wants ended.

In a series of court hearings, Spears has alleged that multiple people, including her father, have exploited her through the “abusive” agreement which she says has seen many of freedoms taken away from her.

Earlier this week, she condemned Mr Spears in court and called for him to be charged with “conservatorship abuse”.

Spears has not performed in public since late 2018 at the end of a world tour and an extended concert residency in Las Vegas.

On Saturday, she posted: “I’m not gonna be performing on any stages anytime soon with my dad handling what I wear, say, do, or think!!!!

“I’ve done that for the past 13 years… I’d much rather share videos YES from my living room instead of onstage in Vegas where some people were so far gone they couldn’t even shake my hand and I ended up getting a contact high from weed all the time…

“I’m not gonna put on heavy makeup and try try try on stage again and not be able to do the real deal with remixes of my songs for years and begging to put my new music in my show for MY fans… so I quit!!!!”

She continued: “This conservatorship killed my dreams… so all I have is hope and hope is the only thing in this world that is very hard to kill… yet people still try !!!!”

She also referenced Framing Britney Spears – a documentary on the star’s life and struggles in the public eye – which was nominated for two Emmy awards this week.

“I didn’t like the way the documentaries bring up humiliating moments from the past… I’m way past all that and have been for a long time,” she added.

This week, Mathew S Rosengart was named as her new lawyer in the case, replacing Samuel Ingham, the man appointed by the court to represent Spears, but whom she criticised last month for not doing enough to help her end the arrangement.

Spears and her lawyer have yet to file a formal request to end the conservatorship. The next court hearing is on 29 September in LA.

She has received considerable support on social media through the #FreeBritney campaign.
