Richard Hammond is putting some of his impressive rides up for auction at The Classic at Silverstone. Hammond has been at the centre of several high-profile shows, including the highly-successful Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

Because starting a business can be rather expensive, Hammond found himself needing to auction off a selection of his car and motorbike collection. This is to fund a new car restoration business called The Smallest Cog that he is setting up with specialists Neil and Anthony Greenhouse.

Hammond will also turn the business into an all-new original docuseries titled, “Richard Hammond’s Workshop” that is set to air on Discovery+ later this year. The presenter was inspired to launch the Smallest Cog project and series by his grandfather, who was a coachbuilder for Mulliner and Jensen.

A few rides listed in the upcoming auction include his personal favourites such as classic and limited-edition motorcycles — the 1976 Kawasaki Z900 and 2019 Norton Dominator 961 Street — he bought himself for his 40th and 50th birthdays, as well as a 1959 Bentley S2, which is a cherished family heirloom.

The Richard Hammond Collection will be sold on August 1 at the Silverstone Classic Sale. According to Silverstone, all the Hammond vehicles for sale will go without reserve, and all the money raised from them will go into funding The Smallest Cog. Find out more about the upcoming auction here.
