Bronx rapper Kay Flock was arrested on December 23 on a charge of first-degree murder, his attorney Scott E. Leemon confirmed to Pitchfork. According to the Daily News, Kay Flock—an 18-year-old born Kevin Perez—is suspected of shooting and killing a 24-year-old man in Manhattan on December 16. In addition to the murder charge, Kay Flock is facing two felony counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, according to online records viewed by Pitchfork.

In a formal statement, shared with Pitchfork on December 24, Leemon said:

Yesterday, I accompanied Kevin as he self-surrendered to Detectives in the 30th precinct. Arrangements were immediately made with NYPD once I learned he was wanted.

As to the charges levied against him, we have begun our own investigation into these allegations. More importantly, considering the D.A.’s significant disclosure this morning that the NYPD received a tip saying someone else is the shooter, we demanded the D.A.’s office provide prompt disclosure of the videos referenced in the complaint and more information on the tip.

We will address bail once we have had a chance to review the pertinent discovery and to further investigate the D.A.’s noteworthy disclosure.

Kay Flock broke out in August with the single “Being Honest.” A couple of months later, G Herbo joined him for a remix of the hit. Both versions of “Being Honest” are included on Kay Flock’s debut project, The D.O.A. Tape, which got released in November via Capitol Records.

A court appearance took place today (January 4). The next court appearance is set for February 10.
