Simon Mason and Dr Noir Jacky Collins

The latest in Dr Jacky Collins’ The Doctor will see you now video interview series catches up with Oxford-based author Simon Mason, whose adult crime fiction debut is A Killing in November. A former publisher, Mason has previously written literary fiction, books for children and some YA crime. “I haven’t written for adults since the 1990s and haven’t written crime for adults before”, he reveals.

A Killing in November features two police detectives called Wilkins who aren’t related, don’t get along and are polar opposites. Ryan is a single father from the wrong side of the tracks, while Ray is a married, smartly dressed Oxford graduate of Nigerian descent. However, two murders are about to throw them together, whether they like it or not.

Settle back for an entertaining and wide-ranging discussion about everything from fatherhood to the city of Oxford, not making snap decisions about people, Mason’s love of architecture… and the character who managed to gatecrash the story – much to the author’s surprise!
