Space tourism company Space Perspective revealed the customisable interiors of the world’s first zero-emission spaceship. Priced at US$125,000 per person, the ‘Space Lounge’ in Spaceship Neptune offers an unparalleled six-hour trip with 360-degree panoramic views of planet earth from 30 kilometres above.
Holding up to eight guests per trip, the futuristic floating capsule includes reclining seats, a bar, a bathroom with huge windows, in-flight WiFi, as well as a telescope and interactive screens. The interiors are designed with sustainable materials throughout — its handcrafted bar is notably made with proprietary materials recycled from the unique SpaceBalloon connected to the capsule. To remind guests of “the interconnected nature of our planet”, there will also be plants and herbs like lavender, basil and rosemary. These ingredients are used in food and drink prep.
Thanks to space travel experts and founders Jane Poynter and Taber Maccallum, Space Neptune uses flight technology extensively tested by NASA. The capsule will launch from Kennedy Space Center with a hydrogen-filled balloon the length of a football stadium. It will then climb at a cruise speed of 12 mph to the edge of the stratosphere before gently descending off the coast of Florida.
“We’re committed to fundamentally changing the way people have access to space — both to perform much-needed research to benefit life on Earth and to affect how we view and connect with our planet,” said Co-CEO Poynter, in an interview with Robb Report. “Today, it is more crucial than ever to see Earth as a planet, a spaceship for all humanity and our global biosphere.”
Spaceship Neptune lifts off at dawn, allowing guests to soak up the rising sun as they travel 100,000 feet up to the edge of space. In ensuring the perfect experience, the company has brought on hospitality and entertainment entrepreneur David Grutman as the Experience Curator. Known for his Miami-area restaurant and nightclub ventures, Grutman will advise the end-to-end experience from arrival to in-flight and post-landing.
“The world class team at Space Perspective is on a mission to change people’s perception of what adventure travel can be. We have so many ideas on how we can customise the journey — from birthday celebrations, and corporate getaways, to creating seminal moments that will capture the imaginations of all,” shared Grutman.
Adding on to its transformative and out-of-this-world qualities, guests can customise their flight. From the menu onboard to lighting and soundtrack, individual preferences can be incorporated into each journey for the ultimate bespoke space adventure.
Space Perspective is also the first space tourism company to accept crypto as payment. According to Forbes, commercial flights are targeted to start in late 2024, with 600 tickets sold to date. The company is currently accepting reservations for 2025 and beyond.
