Megan Thee Stallion sat down with Gayle King on CBS This Morning to discuss the 2020 incident in Los Angeles that left her foot injured by two gun shots. The interview will air tomorrow morning (April 25). Megan has previously identified her alleged assailant as rapper Tory Lanez, who she claimed shot her from inside of an SUV following a verbal altercation. Lanez was arrested on a felony gun charge the night of the incident, and was later charged with felony assault in connection with his arrest. Lanez has since pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Speaking with King, Megan said that she feared for her life as Lanez allegedly shot at her after screaming, “dance bitch.” “I never put my hands on anybody,” Megan added. “I never raised my voice too loud. This was one of those times where it shouldn’t have gotten this crazy.” Watch an excerpt from the interview below.

Lanez was arrested on July 12, 2020 after police responded to a “disturbance” call outside of a Hollywood Hills home around 4:30 a.m, as TMZ initially reported. When law enforcement officials arrived on the scene, they reportedly saw people arguing in an SUV before gun shots were fired and the car drove away. Officers then located what they believed to be the SUV and found Tory Lanez, Megan Thee Stallion, and another woman as passengers. Police also located a concealed firearm while searching the vehicle. Days later, Megan shared a statement disclosing that she had suffered gunshot wounds and undergone surgery for bullet removal.

Later that month, Megan opened up about her injuries in an emotional video, but she did not identify her alleged assailant as Lanez until August of 2020. “Yes this n—a Tory shot me,” Megan said during an Instagram Live session. “You shot me, and you got your publicist and your people going to these blogs lyin’ and shit. Stop lyin’. Why lie?” She added that there were four people in the SUV when an argument broke out. She said she then exited the car to distance herself from the argument. Megan alleged that she was outside of the vehicle when Tory Lanez shot at her while he was still inside the car.

In September of 2020, Lanez responded to Megan’s accusations at length throughout his album DAYSTAR. “How the fuck you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons,” he sang on “Money Over Fallouts.” The following month, Lanez was hit with additional charges stemming from his July 12 arrest: assault with a semiautomatic firearm, personal use of a firearm, and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle. The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office confirmed that he also “faces a gun allegation and that he personally inflicted great bodily injury.” If convicted, Lanez could face nearly 23 years in prison.

Lanez was subsequently handed a protective order stating that he cannot contact or come within 100 yards of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez pleaded not guilty to assault with a semiautomatic handgun in November of 2020. Last August, Lanez violated the terms of the protective order when he appeared at Rolling Loud Miami. The rapper made an unannounced appearance during DaBaby’s set just after Megan Thee Stallion left the festival stage. Lanez’s bail was increased following the violation.

Earlier this month, Lanez’s bail was increased a second time for an additional violation of the protective order. The latest violation stems from Lanez’s social media behavior; some of his tweets appear to be “clear messages” to Megan Thee Stallion, as presiding Judge David V. Herriford put it (via reports from TMZ and Rolling Stone). The judge definitively ruled that Lanez is “not to mention the complaining witness in this case in any social media.”
