Bad Bunny is set to star in a new Sony Pictures film as the Marvel comics antihero El Muerto, Variety reports. El Muerto is scheduled to come to theaters on January 12, 2024. He’s the first Latino actor to headline a live-action Marvel movie. “To bring El Muerto to life is just incredible … so exciting,” Bad Bunny said at CinemaCon.

In the comics, El Muerto is a wrestler whose powers come from his lucha libre mask. The character has appeared in Spider-Man stories, and the film is the latest in Sony’s portfolio of characters from the extended Spider-Man universe. They’ve recently been behind the Tom Holland-starring Spider-Man films, plus Venom and Morbius. Sony’s future projects include Kraven the Hunter (starring Aaron Taylor Johnson) and Madame Web (starring Dakota Johnson).

The part is an appropriate one for Bad Bunny, who in the past year impressed in his professional wrestling debut at WWE’s WrestleMania and Royal Rumble events. Bad Bunny will soon star in the Sony Pictures movie Bullet Train with Brad Pitt, Michael Shannon, Joey King, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, and Zazie Beetz.
