There’s nothing quite like the air of luxury you find in vintage Hollywood fashion archives, is there? Nowhere was this more apparent than in tantalizing shots of celebrities at play on the beach. While we can’t guarantee we can set you up with a new silver screen career, you can capture that same old-school-cool vibe in your summer beachwear this year. It’s time to look like you just stepped off your yacht. Here’s how!

Fit and Flatter, not Fashion

One of the key things to remember about vintage glamour is that it predates the fast fashion era. Instead of taking whatever is fitted (sort-of) off the rack, most of the stars and starlets whose magnetic attraction we love were having pieces individually built and fitted for them and their unique bodies.

Most of us won’t be able to demand couture swimwear, of course, but it’s a lesson you can leverage to create that same air of sparkle and magnetism in your beach wardrobe. If you love a trend, embrace it, but don’t just settle for another alternative.

Instead, spend a little time looking for interesting, unique swimwear pieces that fit you like a glove. Use adornments to flatter your unique body shape by directing the eye to your best assets and diverting from where you feel self-conscious.

Today, you have a vast variety of swimwear options open to you, so there’s no need to settle. Don’t like two-pieces? Then find a one-piece that brings out the best of you! High legs not for you? Then opt for a medium-rise or boy short leg line that makes you feel great. Not happy with your back view? Try swim shorts for women that make your booty pop instead. Burn easily? The rash guard and long sleeve suits are back with a passion, so don’t be shy.

The swimwear world has opened up far beyond the string bikini and Baywatch one piece, so find pieces that make you look and feel great. There’s something for everyone from modest to in-your-face, so don’t feel obliged to take what you can get. The perfect match is out there.

The Whole Package

A good suit is a great start, but don’t stop there, either! A luxury beach experience goes beyond what you will wear in the water. It’s time to consider the overall effect of your beach ensemble.

Wide-brimmed hats and starlet sunglasses aren’t just fashion trends, either. They help keep you from burning. Floaty scarves and evocative sarongs or kaftans help you create a look that’s put together seamlessly — no need to slap on an old t-shirt and be shy.

You can even extend your beach look through cool, nature-inspired jewellery (think wood, resin, salt-safe metallics, and natural materials), beaded sandals and wedges, and even funky, high-end towels, beach bags, and other goodies.

Don’t neglect yourself, too! Invest in a good manicure and pedicure to seal the deal. Pop a good exfoliator in your bag to keep your skin glowing. And if you’re avoiding the sun for the health of your skin, consider a great fake tan to keep the beach vibes flowing.

Love Yourself

Even if you’re naturally shy, you can fake it ’til you make it. Use your new beach ensemble to give yourself a true star quality confidence. When you feel great in what you’re wearing, it shows in your confidence and personality.

It is time to break away from the crowd and spoil yourself this summer. Bring some silver screen glamour to your beach holiday through stand-out pieces, a put-together look, and the inner sparkle that makes you unique.
