One of the joys of living in Singapore is its close proximity to multiple countries in Southeast Asia. From hopping on a quick flight to Bangkok, Thailand, to a short drive up to Johor Bahru, Malaysia, there are several ways to satisfy that sudden urge to wanderlust. While these two modes of transportation are the more common ones, Singapore also has ferry services to nearby places, including the newly operational Desaru Coast Ferry Terminal on the southeast coast of Malaysia’s state of Johor.

Holidaymakers can take the ferry from Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore directly to Desaru Coast, and the journey is approximately 90 minutes. A single round trip will currently loop between these two destinations from Thursdays to Sundays. The ferry departs at 8.30am from Singapore and 5.30pm from Desaru.

Even though driving to Desaru Coast remains an option, taking the journey via sea makes for a more unique and fuss-free experience. Not to mention, the nearest resort is only a stone’s throw away from the terminal, so you can get started on your adventure right away. With a portfolio of internationally acclaimed hotels and resorts, including Asia’s first One&Only hotel, Anantara Resort & Villas, Hard Rock Hotel and The Westin, there is surely something for anyone looking to have a great time at Desaru Coast.

Here’s a handy list of hotels to stay at for a weekend getaway
