Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye is going to star in a new movie directed by Trey Edward Shults, as Deadline notes. The movie does not yet have a title, and its plot details are being kept under wraps, but the Weeknd’s co-stars in the film will be Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
The Weeknd co-wrote the movie with Shults and Reza Fahim. The film’s producers are the Weeknd, Fahim, Kevin Turen, and Harrison Kreiss. Oneohtrix Point Never will score the movie.
The Weeknd has acted in Uncut Gems, scored by Oneohtrix Point Never. He’s also the star and co-creator of the forthcoming HBO series The Idol. In addition, he co-wrote and starred in an episode of American Dad and once voiced a character on The Simpsons.
The Weeknd’s most recent album, Dawn FM, arrived in January 2022. He worked closely with Oneohtrix Point Never on the studio LP.
