Reggae and Soul extraordinaire’s Leon & The Peoples killed it in a live extravaganza at the trendy new nightspot Chelsea Table & Stage last Monday May 22, 2023 in the heart of New York City. The night was ablaze with a shimmering and dynamic flickering of the aurora borealis or the might of the majestic Zambezi as it drops like a curtain of Victoria falls….
Known as just “Leon” (aka Leon Robinson), stormed the ramparts of success as an actor known for his starring roles in films including “The 5 Heartbeats”, “Cool Runnings”, “Above The Rim”, “ Waiting to Exhale”, “Little Richard”, his portrayal of David Ruffin in “The Temptations” and a marathon of others, as well as his famous role as Jesus in the Madonna music video “Like A Prayer.”
Leon however has a passion for music. His band “Leon & The People” have appeared on BET’s 106 and Park and has headlined the celebration in Central Park dedicated to the New York City Aids Walk from 2003 to 2009. Leon & The Peoples have performed at Summer Stage and The International Music and Arts Festival in New Orleans and has appeared alongside Reggie artists including Beres Hammond and Marcia Griffiths.
Leon captured the stage with his salacious swagger and his florescent animation and had the congregation smiling non-stop and dancing in the aisles. Leon is an accomplished actor, who is sexy as fuck but he can also sing…the man’s got a vibrant and flawless talent as he showcased all his original favorite’s “Sometimes I Wish I Was Single”, “World’s Gonna Come Around”, “Love Is A Beautiful Thing”, and a barrage of others.
His set also included his newest hit, about to be released and never before performed “Hold Onto Love”, which promised to be a globally recognized chart explosion….And the band…Triggered by the words “Leon & The People’s” the People’s rock with Monia Amore and Alexis Layne who can belt out a tune, lead guitarist Alex, the one and only T-Bone playing bass, keys and nearly everything else, second bassist Maverick, keyboardist Cinnamon, and cool drummer Daryl Chalmers.
After two climactic encores Leon left the stage while fans gathered round to show their appreciation….and he accompanied the fandom…..
