Devo have announced a career-spanning box set, covering the full half-century of the group’s existence. 50 Years of De-Evolution 1973–2023 is out October 20 via Rhino. A limited 4xLP edition of the set comes with a foldable paper replica of the group’s signature red “energy domes.” Check out a 7″ take of Devo’s “Disco Dancer” below.

In a press release about the project, Mark Mothersbaugh said the release “represents a great cross section of early experiments and later creations.” He continued, “I was looking to create a new sound, a concept in art and music that represented a new way of thinking about life on planet earth. With Devo, I think we did just that.”

Mothersbaugh co-founded Devo with brothers Gerald and Bob Casale in 1973, directly inspired by the 1970 National Guard shooting at their Kent State college campus. Bob Casale died in 2014 at age 61. The group is the subject of a forthcoming documentary by director Chris Smith, the first fully authorized project of its kind. Devo’s history has also been chronicled in a two-book set, with the volumes The Brand and Unmasked both published in 2018. The group last released an album in 2010 with Something for Everybody.
