Brian Eno, Lollapalooza, Luther Vandross, and Devo Documentaries to Premiere at 2024 Sundance Film Festival

The Sundance Institute has announced what’s coming to the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, which takes place January 18-28. Included are documentaries on Brian Eno, Lollapalooza, Luther Vandross, Devo, and how rap lyrics have played a role in court cases.

Eno is a new film from Gary Hustwit, the documentarian behind Helvetica, Objectified, and Urbanized. The movie about his career and creative process is described as a featuring “groundbreaking generative technology,” which apparently makes it a different viewing experience every time it’s shown.

The three-part limited series Lolla: The Story of Lollapalooza is directed and produced by Michael John Warren. The first two parts will screen both at the festival and online. The Devo documentary, the first-ever fully authorized film about the band, was previously announced; it will be directed by Chris Smith. Luther: Never Too Much looks at the career of Luther Vandross. It’s directed by Dawn Porter.

Other premieres include As We Speak, the J.M. Harper–directed documentary about “the growing weaponization of rap lyrics in the United States criminal justice system and abroad.” Kneecap tells the story of the Belfast rap trio. Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat from director Johan Grimonprez looks at Abbey Lincoln, Max Roach, and Louis Armstrong’s roles in 1960s international diplomacy.
