Oh, readers, TV Fanatic has got some news for you. Madeline Matlock will finally have her day in the sun and in court. Who says you can’t bring criminals to justice and have an AARP membership at the same time?
Although it may not be all rainbows and smiles, as you’ll see in the promo, Madeline is not thrilled about the opportunity. Then again, she did want Olympia’s trust.
One thing we can count on is that not everything will be as it seems on Matlock. The series has done everything it can to keep audiences on their toes.
Given that the wheels have only started turning, viewers have a whole season of twists and turns to look forward to.
Madeline Kingston Could Cause Real Problems For Madeline Matlock
For the last couple of episodes, Matty’s main goal has been getting tight with Jacobson & Moore. It hasn’t exactly been the smoothest transition, but Madeline Kingston has several tricks up her sleeve.
She narrowly avoided suspicion from Olympia at the end of Matlock Season 1 Episode 2. That encounter ended on the best possible note.
The next episode shows the fruits of that labor, with Olympia assigning Matty her first case to try. You’d think Madeline would be overjoyed at the opportunity.
One thing about Matlock has me constantly scratching my head in curiosity. Even though Madeline Kingston pretends to be Madeline Matlock, she doesn’t pretend to be a lawyer.
In fact, she was a lawyer for years and has not been retired nearly as long as her alter ego. So, there are records of Madeline Kingston (Kathy Bates) practicing law.
She could be registered with multiple national registries depending on the kind of law she practiced. Considering her experienced status, there are bound to be numerous documents with her face floating around.
The grandson would have to be able to go back decades and rewrite Madeline Kingston’s entire career. You never know, though. That’s the magic of storytelling.
The Lines Between The Original Matlock And The Reboot Are Starting To Blur
It’ll be interesting to see how Madeline navigates being a lawyer as a Matlock and not a Kingston. We may see some more of the original series come through.
Speaking of the Andy Griffith show, the reboot Matlock has done an impressive job keeping the original on the tip of their tongue. So far, not a single episode has gone by without referencing the 1986 series.
Not to get anyone’s expectations up, but I’m hoping for an epic trial scene like the original run was known for. You already know Kathy Bates will give a master class of a monologue.
She’ll need to pull out all the stops to impress Olympia. Madeline has been on a good roll, and this is not the time for her to get caught with her hand in the cookie jar.
Especially when it looks like some new faces are coming our way.
With Flaming Locks Of Auburn Hair, With Ivory Skin, And Eyes Of Ocean Blue
The official synopsis for Matlock Season 1 Episode 3 reads as follows: “Matty’s rusty trial skills are put to the test during a wrongful termination case by a woman claiming her boss sexually harassed her.
“Also, the firm’s jury consultant and master lie detector, Shae, joins the case.”
The main takeaway from the plot details is the introduction of the firm’s “lie detector.” You may recognize a certain red-haired woman if you saw the promo in the Matlock Season 1 Episode 2 Spoilers.
The promo for that episode was more like a catch-all for the season. However, the red-haired woman has finally been revealed as an essential employee at Jacobson & Moore.
The actress playing Shae is none other than Yael Grobglas. Audiences may recognize the actor from her twenty-year career in the entertainment industry.
She is known for starring in roles for Supergirl, Reign, and Jane the Virgin. So, this lovely lady has done her time and made the broadcast rounds, specifically with The CW.
From what we can gather from the promos, she seems like an intense woman who will be on to Matty from the start. Shae also seems completely nuts, and I am here for that.
It’s a trope, but I love the eccentric fact-finder who doesn’t trust anyone and thinks there’s hidden meaning behind every word someone utters. Those nut jobs give me life.
Fingers crossed that’s the kind of energy Shae is bringing to mix up the show.
At This Point, Fans Know Better Than To Trust Anything From The Matlock Writers, Right?
Recently, I’ve noticed a trend in shows where episodic characters aren’t treated like throw-away plot devices.
Elsbeth Season 2 Episode 1 displayed this by bringing back characters from Season 1 and referencing those they couldn’t. I would love that to be the case for Matlock.
It would be nice to see Patricia Belcher’s Mrs. B more than once every five episodes. Her character is a cliche but one that adds a much-needed edge to the mix.
Plus, the more characters there are, the more distractions Matty will have to get the goods she needs.
The series seems to be pushing for Olympia to be linked to the opioid case Matty is investigating. However, as audience members, we know better than to trust the writers, right?
They’ve done an incredible job of exceeding expectations, and they certainly aren’t taking their foot off the gas any time soon. If it seems like Olympia is the culprit, she’s probably not.
This broadcast season has had one fantastic series to speculate over after another.
From Matlock to Agatha All Along to High Potential, and even FROM, the 2024 television season has delivered one wonderfully watchable show after another across TV and streaming.
Matlock is at the forefront of viewers’ minds. So many of you have commented on how much you love this show, and I am right there with you.
The writing and storytelling are impeccable. The acting is the perfect balance of heart and humor. And one of the things at the heart of the series is the cases.
Each week has given audiences a look into a story and life similar to events from the real world. So, hats off to the hands behind Matlock for not being afraid to showcase challenging and often traumatic topics.
As viewers, we have that to look forward to for the rest of the season. But for the next episode, we’ll see Madeline Kingston as Madeline Matlock tries a case for the first time in thirty years.
It’s going to be a fun and anxiety-ridden ride that I will be at the edge of my seat enjoying with the rest of you. For now, check out the promo for CBS‘s Matlock Season 1 Episode 3 below!
