CBS just made our Mondays a lot more exciting, ordering full seasons for NCIS: Origins and Poppa’s House!
Fans of the NCIS universe are in for a treat, with more backstory on a young Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
Comedy lovers can look forward to even more laughs with Damon Wayans and his real-life son, Damon Wayans Jr., in Poppa’s House.
NCIS: Origins takes us right into the heart of Gibbs’ beginnings, set in the ‘90s, with Austin Stowell stepping in as the young Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
This prequel is packed with classic NCIS grit.
Gibbs’ tough-as-nails mentor, Mike Franks (played by Kyle Schmid), guides him at the Camp Pendleton office — back when NCIS was still NIS.
As fans know, Mark Harmon, the original Gibbs, narrates, adding that perfect touch of authenticity to his younger self’s story.
The origin of Gibbs has been a hit, and the full-season order means we’ll have even more time to see what made him tick.
However, as some critics have pointed out, it’s also almost an origin story for Mike Franks.
Either way, we’re all in here at TV Fanatic and can’t wait to see what’s next!
Then there’s Poppa’s House, a heartfelt and hilarious comedy starring Damon Wayans as “Poppa,” a legendary talk radio host and outspoken dad navigating life with his adult son, played by his real-life son Damon Wayans Jr.
This is a show that blends wit with warmth, keeping viewers entertained through every father-son misadventure.
CBS’s Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, praised both shows.
In a statement, she said, “NCIS: Origins has added a brilliant new dimension to the NCIS franchise with an origin story of Leroy Jethro Gibbs and a cinematic ’90s experience that features distinct characters, stories, and crime solving.”
She continued, “Poppa’s House excels with the dynamic father/son chemistry between Damon and Damon Jr., with family-inspired stories that bring this comedy to life.”
“These shows fit seamlessly into our Monday night lineup while resonating with viewers on CBS and Paramount+.” she added.
Each of the shows will now have an additional 18 episodes to keep fans tuning in.
NCIS: Origins and Poppa’s House are a strong addition to CBS’s Monday lineup, adding fresh laughs and thrills alongside the original NCIS.
This news comes on the heels of an early season 2 renewal for Matlock starring Kathy Bates and a full season order for the comedy Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage.
Now, if only CBS would reconsider its cancellation of the long-running Blue Bloods, we’d be set!
