Activision Says It’s Working With Nintendo to Bring Call of Duty to Switch After Black Ops 7 Reveal

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was confirmed at Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday. The game will launch in 2025 across PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X, with a full reveal set for later this summer. Curiously, a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the next Call Duty was absent from the announcement, despite Microsoft signing a 10-year deal with Nintendo in 2023 to bring the franchise to its platform. However, Activision has now confirmed that it is working with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to Switch.

Activision ‘Committed’ to Bringing COD to Switch

In a statement shared with IGN, Activision said it was “committed to bringing the series to Nintendo’s platform. However, there’s no specific mention of the Nintendo Switch 2.

“We’re committed to getting the franchise on Switch. Both teams are working on it. Will share details when ready,” the statement read.

While the publisher has committed to bringing the series to Nintendo, it’s unclear if Black Ops 7 will make its way to the Switch 2 at some point.

In 2023, Microsoft signed a 10-year licensing deal with Nintendo to bring Call of Duty to its platforms in a bid to allay antitrust concerns over its acquisition attempt of Activision-Blizzard. The Xbox parent signed a similar deal with Sony to continue releasing Call of Duty games on PlayStation.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 is being developed by Treyarch and Raven Software and marks the first-ever back-to-back Black Ops release in COD history. The game is set in 2035, more than 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6, and puts players in the shoes of David Mason, the protagonist from Black Ops 2.

“The year is 2035 and the world is on the brink of chaos, ravaged by violent conflict and psychological warfare following the events of Black Ops 2 and Black Ops 6. Wielding cutting-edge technology, David Mason and his team must fight back against a manipulative enemy who weaponizes fear above all else,” the official description on the Call of Duty website reads.

A full reveal and more information on the game is coming later this summer. Black Ops 7 will launch later in 2025 on PC (via Steam, Xbox PC app, Battle.net), PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X. It will also be available day one with Game Pass.
