With Superman breaking records at the box office and garnering great reviews from fans and critics, many expected DC Studios and James Gunn to announce spin-off projects from the movie. But, while fans want Superman (David Corenswet) to return for a sequel, and for Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathegi) and Bizarro (also David Corenswet) to get their own spin-offs, it’s the film’s most unlikely hero who is rumored to star in a new project. He might be a punching bag in the comics and the DC Animated Universe, but Superman‘s version of Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo) is an adept journalist and a womanizer capable of stealing Lex Luthor’s girlfriend. A new rumor suggests that Olsen will lead a new spin-off series, and fans are having a field day with the news on social media.
According to insider Apocorseman, Jimmy Olsen will take center stage in a new crime anthology series set in the DCU. The report suggests that each episode will introduce and focus on a new villain, with Jimmy Olsen acting as the show’s host and narrator. It’s important to note that the rumor hasn’t been confirmed by DC Studios, James Gunn, or The Daily Planet. But that hasn’t stopped DC fans from tearing the concept apart on socials.

Latest ‘Superman’ Box Office Results Could Spell Bad News for the Future of the DCU
Despite a dominating domestic run, ‘Superman’s overall box office figures are worrying for the DCU’s future.
“A Jimmy Olsen show…..are we serious,” wrote @thebeldamm. @JimmyCVAMC took the news of a fellow Jimmy receiving a spin-off series a bit more bluntly, writing, “No just no.” Although not everyone took the news so negatively. Superman introduced a lot of great characters to the DCU, and Gisondo’s Jimmy Olsen is a fan favorite among many. “You might laugh this off as nothing major, but I don’t think you guys quite understand…” began @ResonantJustice‘s response. “It’s lowkey kinda hype.”
The Jimmy Olsen Spin-Off Show Could Introduce One of DC’s Most Powerful Villains
Casual audiences held their own opinions about the potential Jimmy Olsen spin-off show. But long-time DC Comics readers knew the potential of the series to introduce one of DC’s biggest and baddest villains. Darkseid, DC’s equivalent to Thanos, is a major antagonist for the Justice League, and would have been introduced in the DCEU if Justice League had been successful. Despite being one of the most powerful villains in DC Comics history, the character had an unlikely origin.
Darkseid didn’t debut in a Justice League comic or even a Batman or Superman story. Instead, it was Clark Kent’s best buddy, Jimmy Olsen, who introduced the world to Darkseid. Created by Jack Kirby in 1970, Darkseid debuted in Superman’s Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 in a brief panel. He later made a larger debut in Forever People in 1971.
“The joke saying Darkseid will be introduced in the Jimmy Olsen show is going to be f*cking real,” wrote @JuanEdits. @McR1B69 tacked on to the joke being “f*cking real” by writing, “Jimmy Olsen show? Well there’s the perfect place to introduce Darkseid into the DCU.”
