New John Lennon and Yoko Ono Box Set Power to the People Announced

A new box set documenting John Lennon and Yoko Ono early years in New York will arrive October 10, via Universal Music Group. The 12-disc set, Power to the People, features 90 unreleased tracks including demos, home recordings, jam sessions, and a bevy of live recordings that includes a compilation taken from their 1972 One to One shows at Madison Square Garden. There’s also a newly mixed and reimagined version of their 1972 album Sometime in New York City.

Power to the People, attributed to John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band, also features their sometime backing bands Elephant’s Memory and Invisible Strings, as well as appearances from Frank Zappa and the Mothers, David Peel and the Lower East Side, and Phil Ochs. Sean Ono Lennon led the team that produced all the recordings.

In the preface to the box set, Yoko Ono writes, “The One To One concert was our effort in Grassroots Politics. It embodied what John and I strongly believed in – Rock for Peace and Enlightenment. And this one in Madison Square Garden turned out to be the last concert John and I did together. Imagine Peace. Peace is Power. Power To The People!”
