When Calls the Heart Season 13 Episode 6 Review: New Technology, Old Flames, and Confessions Coincide in “Moment of Truth”

When Calls the Heart has a habit of doing a spectacular job of their midseason Saturday episode, and this one was no exception.

When Calls the Heart Season 13 Episode 6 introduced the polygraph, prompting residents to have their moments of truth.

When Mountie Briggs arrived, fans received a special treat. Georgie McGill also returned, and we reunited with Bill.

“Moment of Truth” featured storyline arcs for everyone as it began wrapping up the fire investigation mystery, but it also included plenty of romance and family angst for other characters.

The series has truly learned to balance its characters and storylines, but I hope it didn’t introduce too many new ones.

The Debate Over Science Versus Instinct Began

“Moment of Truth” featured a special connection for Little House on the Prairie fans, as Mountie Elmer Briggs was played by Michael Landon Jr.’s son, Austin, and Melissa Gilbert returned as Inspector Georgie McGill.

Since she’s known the family forever, it was interesting to watch Georgie and Mountie Briggs debate the intricacies of the polygraph versus instinct.

While there’s something to be said for accurate science, sometimes trusting your gut instinct goes a long way.

I had to laugh at Bill, who had to referee between the two, and it was hilarious watching Oliver being the guinea pig in the contraption.

Nathan thought they’d catch him with the breakfast question, but when he revealed the delicious waffles, it only made Georgie crave some of Bill’s cooking.

Nathan Felt the Pressure of the Polygraph

Erin Krakow mentioned in her interview that she got to play with Melissa Gilbert more this season, so it was entertaining to see Georgie and Elizabeth disagree whether a little mystery or total honesty was better in a relationship.

Nathan quickly ended up in the hot seat because he kept insisting he loved Elizabeth’s lemon curd, but everyone else could tell he lied, so they wanted to test him in the polygraph.

It was funny how shocked LJ was that Nathan would ever lie, and how Nathan tried to spin it that he loved everything about Elizabeth.

Mountie Briggs admitted that it was true, and like most young kids, LJ put Nathan on the spot, asking if he planned to marry his mom.

I thought that moment was amusing, but Nathan looked a little too relieved that work rescued him.

It wasn’t that he didn’t love Elizabeth. He’s sure about how he feels about her and their dreams, but he was put on the spot.

I suspect a proposal may still come this season. Valentine’s Day is next weekend, so you never know.

The Gowen Men Proved That People Can Change

Henry Gowen has evolved so much since When Calls the Heart began.

He struggled with his son’s dilemma because it was wrong and hurt other people he cared about.

I gave him credit for confronting Christopher, even though his son only threw it back in his face, saying he learned these things from Henry.

That had to hurt Henry because he knew he had made mistakes, but he admitted them, wanted better for his son, and encouraged him to make the right decision.

Henry knew better than anyone how guilt could haunt you for years, and he didn’t want that for his son.

Christopher even admitted that he never would have confessed if Henry hadn’t found the cement rocks and encouraged him, but he didn’t want the boys to suffer either.

I’m relieved it wasn’t his idea, and he was hired as part of the cleanup crew to make the evidence disappear.

While it didn’t make it right, he tried to prove himself by coming forward. Both Henry and Bill looked proud.

Will an Interloper Speed Things Up for Edie and Lucas?

I loved that Lucas and Edie got more screen time, and initially, I was excited that she planned a charity poker event because playing cards was one of their things.

I even enjoyed that Lucas was involved in the Benson Hills renovation project in Lee’s absence. It seemed like the perfect use of his time since he’s always cared about helping people.

But it seemed too convenient that the series made him and Fernando fast friends. They liked the same hobbies and preferred brick for new builds. It seemed odd.

It was because Fernando had been engaged to Edie. While he joked Lucas had great taste, how will this affect things moving forward?

(Hallmark Channel/Screenshot)

Hopefully, Lucas will decide he wants to move forward with Edie, and Fernando will not be an issue.

I don’t want more new characters, so I’m hoping he stays in the background as the contractor.

Other Hope Valley Happenings

Lee has struggled to recover at home and has not been allowed to assist with the reconstruction. However, being at home has allowed him to be a more hands-on dad with Goldie and Gwen.

He’s built such a rapport with Gwen that he understood her fear of seeing her dad in the hospital and that she might lose him, too.

It terrified her when Lee thought he had a heart attack because she didn’t want to lose another person, and he had to assure her that he was fine, as was her father.

As glad as I am that her father is recovering, I’ll miss Gwen around Hope Valley when she leaves. She brightens it up.

(Jeff Weddell/ Hallmark Media)

While we mainly saw Bill in work mode, he obviously looked happy to have Georgie back, and I’m anxious to see if their relationship picks back up again.

They mesh so well, and I want Bill to have a romance arc and not just always be about Mountie cases.

Over to you, Hearties. Were you excited to see Georgie McGill appear again? Do you think the Mounties will use the polygraph again? Were you expecting more romance tonight?
