Fanatic Feed: CIA Fate Revealed, Hacks Return Date, and More!

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Monday, March 23, 2026.

The latest entry in the FBI franchise is a keeper for CBS.

The broadcast network has handed out a very early renewal for CIA Season 2, just weeks into the series’s freshman run.

CBS has revealed that CIA Season 1 Episode 1 reached 8.4 million viewers, and that the show has improved the network’s Mondays at 10 pm time slot.

Given the hurdles the series faced getting to the screen, it’s good to know it has resonated with viewers.

There were also questions about whether disgruntled fans of FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted would tune in, given how both shows were canceled.

“When by-the-book FBI Special Agent Bill Goodman (Nick Gehlfuss) is loaned out to a clandestine CIA/FBI task force, he finds himself teamed up with secretive and roguish CIA Agent Colin Glass (Tom Ellis),” reads the official description for CIA.

(Mark Schafer/CBS )

“Together they will work covert operations in New York, uncovering international plots, terrorist cells and geopolitical secrets,” the logline continues.

“On CIA, Bill will learn the rules of this murky world on the fly as Colin leads him deeper into spy games where only one thing is clear – their work keeps America safe, even if no one will ever know what they did in the shadows.”

CBS has renewed Marshals, Tracker, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Ghosts, NCIS, Matlock, FBI, NCIS: Origins, Sheriff Country, Fire Country, Elsbeth, Boston Blue, and NCIS: Sydney previously.

With CIA scoring a renewal, the only bubble shows remaining on CBS are DMV and Watson.

Of the two, DMV has a decent chance of scoring a pickup, but Watson has shed almost 50% of its viewers year over year.

As a result, the Morris Chestnut drama is very likely headed into its final episodes.

In other TV news, this fine Monday, HBO Max has confirmed what everyone expected:

Hacks will end with its fifth season.

The news had been heavily rumored for months, and now, it’s official.

Hacks Season 5 will debut on Thursday, April 9. The series finale is set to air on Thursday, May 28.

The Jean Smart-fronted comedy has had an impressive run, including multiple award wins, so it will be interesting to see how the show concludes.

Elsewhere, another entry in the Star Trek universe is gearing up for an ending.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy will end with its upcoming second season, according to Variety.

The series was a big swing for the franchise, with it being a coming-of-age drama.

Yes, we’ve had animated shows, but Star Trek: Starfleet Academy was quite different.

No details have been revealed about why the series is concluding, but there’s a good chance it didn’t reach a wide enough viewership.

The TV industry is becoming increasingly difficult by the day, and companies are taking fewer risks.

But the demise of Star Trek: Starfleet Academy leaves the future of the franchise as a whole in question.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has an end in sight, and there are no new live-action series in development.
