In a race that will help shape the future of education in Pasco County, Christopher King — grandson of legendary blues icon B.B. King and a father of two Pasco County student-athletes — is emerging as a candidate grounded not in politics, but in people.
A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, nonprofit leader, and longtime advocate for youth development, King has officially entered the race for the Pasco County School Board District 1 seat. His campaign offers a distinct approach — one built on community engagement, mentorship, and real-world impact.
“For me, this isn’t theoretical — it’s personal,” King said. “I’m not only serving families in this community, I’m raising student-athletes in it. I see firsthand the balance our kids carry between academics, sports, and life.”
From Community Work to Public Office
King is the founder and CEO of The Gentlemen’s Course, Inc., a nonprofit organization focused on youth mentorship, etiquette training, and human rights education. Through this work, he has partnered with schools, law enforcement, and community organizations to support underserved youth across Pasco County and beyond.
Carrying forward a legacy of influence and impact inspired in part by his grandfather’s global cultural reach, King has built a reputation locally for hands-on service and leadership.
His initiatives have included:
• Youth mentorship and leadership development programs
• Human trafficking awareness and prevention education
• Monthly community food distributions in partnership with local agencies
• School-based engagement focused on character development and life skills
Supporters say his consistent presence in the community sets him apart.
“Christopher King isn’t new to this work,” said a local supporter. “He’s been showing up for years.”
A Vision Centered on Students, Families, and Opportunity
As both a community leader and a parent of two student-athletes in Pasco County Schools, King’s campaign is rooted in firsthand experience and a simple but powerful belief: strong relationships are the foundation of strong schools.
He emphasizes the need to:
• Strengthen connections between schools, families, and communities
• Support teachers through improved morale and meaningful engagement
• Expand mentorship, athletics, and real-world learning opportunities
• Ensure student-athletes receive the academic and character support needed to succeed beyond sports
• Address student challenges through a more holistic, community-based approach
“Our students are more than test scores,” King said. “They’re leaders, teammates, and future professionals. We have to support the whole child.”
A Broader Perspective on Education
Unlike traditional candidates who often come from administrative or political backgrounds, King brings an external perspective shaped by years of direct service and personal investment in the school system.
His work at the intersection of youth mentorship, community safety, and human rights advocacy has given him insight into the challenges students face beyond the classroom — from trauma to lack of opportunity.
“Students don’t exist in a vacuum,” King said. “As a parent of student-athletes, I see the pressures they face. As a mentor, I help guide them. And as a leader, I want to build systems that truly support them.”
Building a Campaign Through Community Engagement
King’s campaign strategy reflects his grassroots philosophy. Rather than relying solely on institutional backing, he has focused on direct voter engagement — collecting petition signatures, attending local events, and meeting residents across the district.
His message is consistent: visibility builds trust, and trust builds progress.
“If people know you, they believe in you,” he said. “And if they believe in you, they’ll stand with you.”
Looking Ahead
As the 2026 election approaches, voters in Pasco County will have the opportunity to choose leaders who reflect their priorities for education.
King believes his experience — not in politics, but in service, mentorship, and parenthood — offers a compelling alternative.
“This campaign is about the future of our children,” he said. “Not just mine, but every child in Pasco County. And I’m committed to making sure they all have access to the support, guidance, and opportunities they deserve.”
