Even when time marches on, Julia Roberts and Sally Field will always cherish their time with Dolly Parton.
Following Parton’s death at age 80 on Aug. 25, Roberts, 58, and Field, 79, her costars in the 1989 classic Steel Magnolias, remembered their love for the late icon.
“If there are truly angels on earth, then we have just lost one. Dolly Parton,” Field wrote in an Aug. 25 tribute featuring a candid photo of the cast. “There will never be another. I adored her with all my heart and will always cherish our time together. Forever. Rest in peace beautiful Dolly.”
And the Mrs. Doubtfire actress—who played M’Lynn Eatenton, the protective mother of Roberts’ character Shelby—was not alone in feeling honored to have known Parton, whose nephew Bryan Seaver shared the family’s heartbreaking news. Roberts too felt touched by her friendship with the singer.
“Dolly was a magical and joyous human,” she said in a statement to Variety. “I hold knowing her as a treasure in my life. The sun has dimmed today.”
