Richard Jardine, Skypod CEO, and How Digital Time Capsules Can Help Families Around the World

If Skypod digital time capsule company CEO, Richard Jardine, has his way, no family will have to go without messages, pictures, and words of wisdom from loved ones.

Skypod Founder/ CEO Richard Jardin

That’s because Richard and his co-founders have spent years developing and advancing the digital time capsule company Skypod. Skypod’s patent-pending technology allows anyone with an internet connection to create, fill, and send digital time capsules to loved ones all around the world, months or even years into the future. With the pods starting at just $1.99 and several ways for users to receive free Skypod credits, Skypod and its founders have made it their priority to ensure people all around the world can share digital time capsules with people who matter.

Skypod CEO, Richard Jardine, joined me to answer some questions about Skypod, how digital time capsules work, and more.

Thanks for spending some time with me, Richard. Let’s dive right in about how Skypod works. I know the cost to send a pod is low but for a new technology, is there a way for people to create draft time capsules and return to a project at another time, when they finalize what they want to include inside their time capsule?

Yes, and its completely free to begin a draft pod. You only pay when youve finalized the contents of your pod, added the recipients, and selected the time and date your recipients can open it.

What if a recipients contact information has changed? Can the sender make changes to outgoing pods?

Yes. You can easily edit recipients or even add recipients for a Skypod any time before the time and date you set for the recipients to open it.

What if I decide that I would like to add more digital files to a certain message? Am I able to edit the message or delete the message completely before the delivery date?

As long as the pod has not reached the delivery date you can easily delete a pod and replace it with a new time capsule with new contents. The creators maintain control of their pod until the delivery date.

Are recipients able to share their messages with others?

Absolutely. Once the delivery date arrives, recipients will get full access to the contents of the pod. They can share the contents on any platform and even download the files to their own hard drives. Like a physical time capsule, once they open the pod, the contents belong to them and the sender can no longer change or delete it.

Will Skypod notify the sender when the recipient has opened their message?

This is a new feature being added in 2021. The sender is already notified when the recipient accepts their Skypod.

Once the messages have been opened, are recipients able to respond to senders?

Yes. Recipients see who sends them the Skypod and can send aSkypod back right from their dashboard where they access pods sent to them. Of course, they can also interact directly with the sender outside of Skypod’s platform via email or other means.

Are recipients able to save their messages permanently once they receive them?

Yes. Skypods are available for thirty days after the open date during which time recipients can download and save the entire contents of the pods to their hard drives, USB, or any device they may have. Recipients can also obtain optional storage plans if they prefer to store their files on the Skypod platform.

Am I able to save a draft and come back to the pod to finish another day? Would I be able to start off setting up the pod on my iPhone then finish on my laptop?

Yes, both of these features are expected to be released to the public during the second quarter of 2021.

Whats the average time to set up a pod?

You can create and send a pod in a matter of minutes in five simple steps. All you need to do is drag and drop the files into a pod, add a message, choose a cover image, add recipients, and set an open date and time.

Thus, if a sender already created all the content they want to add to their pod, setting up and sending a pod is a very quick process. If they need to create additional content using Skypods software or a third-party service, it can take a little longer to allow for content creation, however setting up and sending the pod itself would still only take minutes once the content is created.

Although Skypods primary role is to secure and deliver the content, our software does allow users to create original content. If someone is looking to create highly specialized content, however, there are many excellent platforms that offer robust content creation options.

No matter where a user creates their time capsule content, once a file is added to a pod, Skypod immediately encrypts and deliversthe pod to the recipients and then secures the pod until the time and date the sender chooses for it to be opened, up to five years in the future.

Skypod Co- Founder Majd Elias (L), Founder Richard Jardin (C), Co-Founder Jason Nauman (R)

Our passion for digital time capsules comes from deep personal experiences of each of our co-founders, Jason Swing, Majd Elias, Jason Nauman, and me. For example, I lost my father while I was young and have never seen a single photograph of him. Another founder lost multiple loved ones to cancer.

To us, Skypod offers a way that we can help ourselves and others ensure that our memories, messages, and wisdom can be delivered to our loved ones well into the future, even if we are no longer present physically.

Our desire to help people preserve and protect memories, messages, and wisdom sits at the core of everything we do at Skypod. It’s evidenced by our company value of “give, give, give,” which I first learned from Oprah and then integrated into Skypod. All founders and team members want to help as many people as possible.

We are constantly looking for ways to improve how we help people preserve and share memories with people who matter most to them. As Skypod grew, we identified two groups of people we wanted to help on a consistent basis. First, while we set our pricing low, we know there are still many people who can’t afford to create a pod and we want to help them do so. Second, we wanted to help people who have been diagnosed with potentially terminal illnesses.

To help those groups, we do two things. First, we partner with people and organizations to donate Skypod credits to people in need. Second, we donate Skypod credits to people in those categories as a company. Currently, Skypod is giving away $3 Million in free Skypod credits to first responders, healthcare workers, coronavirus patients, and people recently diagnosed with cancer, to ensure nobody in the world needs to risk having their memories lost.

First responders, healthcare workers, and coronavirus patients should visit www.skypod.com/together to receive $100 in free Skypod credits. Also, patients who have been recently diagnosed with cancer should visit www.skypod.com/cancer to receive $100 in free Skypod credits, too. No credit card is required. No strings attached. Others can sign up for a free Skypod account at www.skypod.com as well. It’s always free to receive a Skypod and you only pay for your time capsule when you’re ready to send it.

To keep up with the latest on what we’re doing, you can stay connected with Skypod on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter.
