World-renowned TV host Mickey Burns is one of seven individuals that have been selected as an inductee into the Staten Island Sports Hall of Fame. Hall of Fame President Anthony Santo announced the individuals to be enshrined: Lou Anarumo Jr, Julie Bowers, Mickey Burns, Jesse Carlin, Greg Pedro, James Sparrow and Bill Wolfe.

Said Santo, “After a long research, debate and voting process, the Selection Committee has again done a masterful job of selecting truly worthy candidates for Induction into The Staten Island Sports Hall of Fame.” In noting that the process of selection can be arduous and challenging, Mr. Santo added, “There is no doubt that Staten Island has a truly rich sports history and a plethora of individuals and teams worthy of consideration for enshrinement. Each year culling a long list down to a half dozen or so inductees is a wrenching, but rewarding experience.”

Santo concluded, “I congratulate this year’s deserving inductees and I look forward to sharing the joy of their recognition with them and their families at our Induction ceremony, the date soon to be announced.”

Mickey Burns was a multi-sport star at New Dorp High School, where he was pivotal in an iconic football team’s undefeated run to a city championship, and at Missouri Valley College. In thirteen seasons as the basketball coach at McKee High School, Burns won four Island titles, and his 1977 team is the only Island public school to play for a city title.

Mickey Burns is a veteran journalist who hosts “Profiles,” a long-running award winning series filmed in Times Square in the heart of New York City. This unique interview show allows viewers to get to know celebrities from all walks of the entertainment and show business world. Guests that have appeared on “Profiles” include: Robert Wagner, Susan Lucci, Dr. Deepak Chopra, Kenny G, Mayim Bialik, Gloria Gaynor, Misty Copeland and George Foreman, just to mention a few.
