While most of the eyes of DC fans are on David Corenswet’s physical transformation on his way to becoming the new Man of Steel for Superman: Legacy, there is another of the future titles of the new DCU that has made significant progress. This is the Creature Commandos animated series, one of the central productions of the first phase of the new extended universe, titled Gods & Monsters.

Through Reddit, the user DCEU Leaks shared a series of images that offer a first look at the general design of the show, showing quite gritty but also colorful and imposing settings. The images also include a look at some characters, Eric Frankenstein and the Bride of Frankenstein:

Creature Commandos will follow the adventures of a group of military heroes with special abilities created during World War II, which includes a human leader, a werewolf, a vampire, among other strange beings.

To create a new strong and stable canon, James Gunn will have to draw on a group of great stars and future promises that create balance for the franchise. Creature Commandos is one of the most important projects within the new DCU, since it will be one of the first titles to be released, marking a path of success or failure for the future of the franchise. That’s why Gunn and Safran have chosen a great cast to voice these characters. The most interesting thing, however, is that they have already confirmed that if an actor plays a character in an animated project, if that character later appears in a live-action version, it will be played by the same actor.

The cast of the series is led by an action film legend who also has experience in superhero movies. MCU and The Purge star Frank Grillo will voice Rick Flag Sr. He will be joined by fellow Marvel Cinematic Universe member and Stranger Things star David Harbour, playing Eric Frankenstein. Alan Tudyk, who was part of the DC universe in Doom Patrol, will play Dr. Phosphorus, and James’ brother and another former MCU/DCEU alum, Sean Gunn, will voice G.I. Robot.

Maria Bakalova from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will follow Gunn on his new adventure and will play Rostovic, while the Game of Thrones and Obi-Wan Kenobi star Indira Varma will voice The Bride of Frankenstein. Finally, The Afterparty star Zoë Chao will play Nina Mazursky.

Earlier this year, Harbour expressed his excitement for working on Creature Commandos, praising the story developed by Gunn:

“I didn’t know what it was when it was sent to me; I met with James, and he sort of laid out a lot of stuff. It’s really exciting. He considers it some of the best stuff he’s ever written. It’s hilarious, and the character is great. I think it’s been announced that it’s Frankenstein, and it’s a very colorful, terrific character. So, yeah, we’ve started to shoot stuff. I’m not one to really break, but during this, it is wildly funny stuff. So, yeah, we’re shooting. It’s hilarious and I can’t wait for people to see it.”
