Lando Norris has ended Max Verstappen’s winning streak by securing the first victory of his career at the Miami Grand Prix.

In his 110th Formula One appearance, the 24-year-old from Bristol took advantage of a safety car period to pull ahead of Verstappen.

Verstappen followed Norris on the 180mph drag to the opening corner at the Hard Rock Stadium, but Norris managed to keep him at bay before turning in the fastest lap of the race.

He crossed the line seconds ahead of Verstappen, who took second place ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, whose teammate Carlos Sainz took fourth.

Lewis Hamilton claimed his best result of the season by crossing the line sixth.

“Whooooooooooo, whooooooooo, I love you all,” Norris yelled over the radio after crossing the finishing line.

“Thank you so much. We did it, Will [Joseph, Norris’s race engineer]. We did it.

“I guess that is how it is done. Finally. Oh, I am so happy. I knew it when I came in this morning. I said today is the day, full of opportunities. I nailed it, you nailed it, thank you so much.

“Thanks Mum, thanks Dad, this one is for my grandma, thank you very much.”
