9-1-1: Lone Star to End With Upcoming Fifth Season on Fox

You’ve heard of Texas hold ’em? Well, this is Texas fold ’em.

It was announced today that 9-1-1: Lone Star will come to an end after five seasons on Fox.

The news comes just weeks before the September 23 premiere of 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 5.

The cancelation, which was confirmed today in a statement from Fox, does not come as a total shock.

Lone Star went on hiatus last year in response to the dual writers and actors’ strikes.

And rumors that the 9-1-1 spinoff would come to an end with its fifth season have been circulating for months.

But none of that eases the suffering of the Lone Star faithful, who have been thrilling to the adventures of Austin’s courageous first responders since the show premiered in 2020.

In his announcement, Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn stated:

“From the start, fans have followed the heroic and deeply moving stories of the men and women who make up Austin’s 126, so a huge thanks to one of the greatest creative teams in all of television — Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear — for creating one of the most action-packed dramas anywhere.”

“Now in our final season of the show, we’re set to give it the high-stakes send-off it deserves, complete with breathless rescues, insurmountable odds and relatable personal struggles, thanks to our incomparable, stellar cast led by Rob Lowe and Gina Torres.”

So at least fans can take heart that the show will receive the send-off it deserves.

And the fifth and final season of Lone Star should be loaded with drama, as there are quite a few questions left for the writers to answer.

For example, fans are wondering how the show will write off Grace Ryder following news of actress Sierra McClain’s departure from Lone Star.

Of course, Lone Star’s predecessor, 9-1-1, was picked up by ABC after being canceled by Fox in 2023.

The show has enjoyed massive success at the alphabet network, so there’s always hope that execs will resuscitate Lone Star, as well.

But with production budgets shrinking at every network, and an industry-wide contraction underway, such a move seems unlikely at this time.

What do you think, TV fanatics? Are you hoping for a miracle, or are you content to watch Lone Star ride off into the sunset?
