Donald Trump is expected next Sunday to make his first public appearance since leaving office.

The former US president, who departed the White House on 20 January, is set to speak at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Orlando, Florida.

The full line-up of the annual gathering of conservative politicians and media figures has not yet been announced.

But Mr Trump is expected to be the last speaker on the final day of the event of 28 February, NBC News reported, citing two sources familiar with the plans.

As America’s commander-in-chief, he spoke at CPAC several times, often using it to deliver some of his longest speeches. In 2019, he talked for more than two hours.

This year, according to one source, he is planning to address his second impeachment trial, where he was acquitted by the Senate of inciting the rioting at the US Capitol on 6 January.

He is also expected to give his views on the future of the Republican party and the conservative movement.

And Mr Trump will take aim at President Joe Biden, the source said.

He is set to criticise Mr Biden’s “disastrous” immigration and border plans, which include offering an eight-year path to citizenship for most of the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the US.

After leaving office last month following his election defeat, Mr Trump flew to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

His Twitter account is suspended and he has kept a relatively low profile even during his second impeachment trial.

Last Wednesday, he spoke to media outlets including Fox News after radio host Rush Limbaugh died.
