The Icon

Asia Global Yachting (AGY) has been appointed as a representative of Tyde in the Southeast Asian nations of Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

Co-founded by Dr Christoph Ballin and Tobias Hoffritz, Tyde collaborated with BMW and Designworks to develop The Icon, the 43ft electric foiling commuter that entered the spotlight at last May’s Cannes Film Festival before returning to the south-coast city for the Cannes Yachting Festival in September.

The Icon

Ballin said: “Our collaboration with Asia Global Yachting symbolises a shared vision for a sustainable future in luxury maritime travel. The Icon is the embodiment of this future, combining Tyde’s dedication to innovation with the flawless aesthetics and performance BMW is known for. We’re setting sail towards a new horizon, where luxury and sustainability exist in harmony.”

The Icon glides across the water on three hydrofoils, while technology includes twin 100kW inboard electric motors and BMW i3 battery technology. The yacht has a 50nm-plus range at a cruising speed of 24 knots and a top speed of 30 knots.

The superstructure spans the yacht’s near-15ft beam and is dominated by glass on both sides and aft, with a carbon-fibre roof that can include glass or solar panels, while the aft deck is open to the elements. The interior can be customised, with hull one configured with a central digital helm, artistic furniture, a luxurious carpet and an immersive Dolby Atmos sound system.

Nicolas Monges, Managing Director and co-founder of Asia Global Yachting, said: “The union between AGY and Tyde is a testament to our commitment to excellence and our foresight in embracing eco-friendly innovations. We’re not just offering our clients a boat; we’re offering them the experience of cutting-edge technology and design that honours the environment. It’s a privilege to introduce The Icon to Southeast Asia.”

Tyde is also developing The Open, an electric 48-footer that also features three foils but is designed like a luxury day boat, with an open layout and a large hard top covered in solar panels. The main deck includes an aft island sunpad, a long table flanked by sofas, bench-seat helm station, foredeck with sofa and foldout-sunbed option, plus a lower-deck cabin with double bed, large TV, desk and en-suite bathroom.
