While the months of May through July calls for a flurry of pre-fall and cruise collections, we’ve diverted our attention to something more bespoke. Shown last December in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, Chanel’s latest Métiers d’art collection is finally in boutiques. First presented in 2002, this pre-season collection is an annual tribute to Chanel’s unique savoir-faire and the close-knit partnerships they have fostered with ateliers and their highly skilled artisans. Translated to ‘Master of Art’, the pieces featured celebrate the refined art of craftsmanship and the preservation of age-old techniques. From intricate floral embroidery to hand-crafted pleats, Chanel worked with 11 savoir-faire Maisons that include Lemarie, Lesage, Guillet and more.

The collection opened with a short film directed by sister-brother duo Sofia Coppola and Roman Coppola. The film featured a group of models getting ready for the show and an exceptional set that emulated some of London’s most iconic streets. In this intimate diary-format film, audiences were treated to a vibrant exploration into Manchester’s creative scene and festive revelry of the show.

The Campaign

Shot by Mikael Jansson, the ’60s-inspired campaign highlights the close-knit partnership between ex-creative director Virginie Viard and the Métiers d’art. Revolving around the Maison’s most emblematic fabric, the campaign features three models in monochromatic full-tweed ensembles.

Shot against backdrops of the same hue, the colour diptychs exude a playful femininity and expresses the versatility of tweed. Take, for example, the bright green jacket trimmed with braid and croquets by flou specialist Paloma styled with Chanel’s iconic 11.12 bag.

Combining the perfect blend of classic savoir-faire and Manchester’s vibrant pop spirit, the campaign unfolds into a spellbinding celebration of unparalleled craftsmanship.
