Rising indie-pop sensation Ryn Kid is set to release her steamy new single “Obsession” on Friday, October 25th. Co-written with Andrew Furze and Dani Poppitt, the track is an unapologetic dive into passion, lust, and the tension of wanting more while playing it cool.
The inspiration behind “Obsession” came from a whirlwind of unexpected feelings. “I wrote this song after I started seeing a guy who was perfect for a relationship, but that wasn’t what I was looking for,” says Ryn Kid. “I wanted to be single, have fun, but suddenly, I was caught in this passionate spiral. ‘Obsession’ is my raw, bluntly sexual exposé in the form of a synth indie pop dance song. It’s a track that explores desire with zero filters.”
Producer Andrew Furze took Ryn Kid’s vision and transformed it into a sonic experience. “Ryn Kid often comes to me with a concept she’s kicking around in her head. In this case, she wanted a straight-up indie dance banger. We wrote the track together pretty quickly. I leaned on a lot of classic 80’s synths to give it a retro feel,” Furze explains. “The Ryn Kid sound is an aggressive blend of organic and electro elements, so I added big- distorted bass guitar (TM) and plenty of fun guitars. We always have a LOT of fun with vocal production—it’s another huge part of her sound.”
The Message and Mood of “Obsession”
More than just a club anthem, “Obsession” speaks to those torn between wanting love but resisting commitment. “I hope it makes listeners hot and bothered,” Ryn Kid laughs. “It’s for anyone who’s felt torn between passion and freedom. My music is for people in their 20s, lost but figuring it out—taking names and having fun while doing it.”
