A Labour MP has said he was involved in an incident where he “felt threatened” and is cooperating with police.
Mike Amesbury, the MP for Runcorn and Helsby, said he felt “threatened on the street following an evening out with friends” on Friday night in Cheshire.
“This morning, I contacted Cheshire Police myself to report what happened during this incident,” he added.
“I will not be making further public comment but will, of course, cooperate with any inquiries if required by Cheshire Police.
“I remain fully committed to working hard for the people of Runcorn and Helsby, and am determined to remain an open and accessible MP for our community.”

Video of the incident appears to show Mr Amesbury standing over a man lying on the floor in Frodsham.
The MP tells the man “you won’t ever threaten me again” while pointing at him, before saying: “Yes I am [the MP], yes I am, and you won’t threaten the MP ever again, will you?”

Cheshire Police said officers were called at 2.48am to reports of an assault in Frodsham.
“A caller reported he had been assaulted by a man in Main Street. Inquiries are ongoing.”
The Labour Party added it is aware of the incident and said Mr Amesbury, who has been an MP since 2017, will “cooperate with any inquiries” the police have.
