We’re a little over two months away from the anticipated premiere of Wednesday Season 2 on Netflix, and ahead of its release, creators Miles Millar and Alfred Gough are teasing a darker turn for our favorite spooky girl. Debuting in 2022, Wednesday puts the focus on star Jenna Ortega as she embodies the character made famous by Charles Addams. Sent to study at Nevermore Academy, she becomes embroiled in a murder mystery that sees her put her inherited psychic abilities to good use.
Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Millar and Gough teased a number of things to come in Wednesday Season 2, not the least of which is the series leaning into its horror elements. One of the major complaints about the first season was that it skewed too heavily toward a teen romance, and while there might be a little of that this year, Millar says there will be more moments that make you question just what kind of show you’re watching:
“There’s some moments which are definitely horror movie-worthy. We have that in Season 1, but I think this season there are moments that are very intense, I’ll say.”

‘Wednesday’ Creators Expect Fans to “Fall in Love” With One New Cast Addition
A new addition to Netflix’s ‘Wednesday’ is promising to be absolutely fabulous.
“Season 2 definitely has some moments which are more straightforward horror, and we’re very aware that the show is watched by everybody in terms of the age groups,” he continued, adding that Wednesday Season 2 might go right up to the line of what’s acceptable these days without crossing over: “We want to make sure that it’s never torture porn, but that there’s enough bite to it that it feels that there are real stakes and that people die in this world, and it’s scary at moments. And I think that’s the great tonal shift that the show makes between comedy and horror.”
‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Is More “Complex” Than Before
While major plot details for Wednesday Season 2 remain under wraps, the series will shift gears to provide fans with a more “complex mystery” than was featured in Season 1. “I also just feel like the world is bigger and you get to really explore other characters,” noted Gough of the ensemble cast. Yes, Wednesday is more than just Ortega, as the spotlight this year will also expand to include her parents, Gomez (Luis Guzmán) and Morticia (Catherine Zeta-Jones), roommate Enid (Emma Myers), and Bianca (Joy Sunday) – all of whom play a much bigger role this time around.
Newcomers in Season 2 include Steve Buscemi, Thandiwe Newton, Haley Joel Osment, Billie Piper, and Christopher Lloyd, so there’s no shortage of star power. For Gough, however, he notes that the real fun comes in exploring the mother-daughter relationship between Wednesday and Morticia:
“It’s really delving more into the Addams family and their backstory, but also their relationships. You can have a family that loves each other, but there’s still issues and clashes.”
It definitely sounds like Wednesday Season 2 is going to be bigger and better than last time, which bodes well for fans who have been waiting three long years for its return. You can check out the first four episodes when they hit Netflix on August 6, and look for the remaining four to drop on September 3.
