‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Eyeing 5 Million Five-Day Box Office Opening Weekend

Jurassic World Rebirth will rule the Fourth of July weekend, but the franchise seems to be showing its age. The tracking suggests one of the lowest opening weekends in the franchise’s history, and even with the extra two days for the holiday, it puts it behind projections for other summer tentpoles like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Jurassic World Rebirth is the seventh film in the popular Jurassic franchise and the first of a new era, with stars like Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Idris Elba (Moonlight), and Jonathan Bailey (Wicked) in the lead roles.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jurassic World Rebirth is tracking to gross $120 to $125 million over the five-day Fourth of July weekend. Jurassic World: Rebirth opens on Jul. 2, 2025, a Wednesday, with the Fourth of July landing on Friday. Notably, Deadline’s reporting ranges from $115 million to $135 million. However, Universal Pictures is being more conservative with its estimates, suggesting the movie will open between $90 and $100 million.

Jurassic World Rebirth‘s opening weekend is impressive, but also a significant decrease from the opening weekends of the previous three Jurassic World films. Jurassic World broke the opening weekend record with $208 million back in 2015. In their opening weekends, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion grossed $148 and $145 million, respectively. Notably, those were all three-day weekends, meaning that even with the two extra days, Rebirth will be coming at least $10 million below Dominion if the high estimation is accurate, with a $55 million drop if it comes in on the low end.

‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Box Office Projections Reveal Fantastic News for the MCU

Following ticket sites crashing due to demand, ‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ is looking to be Marvel’s biggest movie of 2025.

July is shaping up to be a big moviegoing month, as Jurassic World, Superman, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are looking to dominate the box office. First Steps became Fandango’s biggest ticket seller of 2025 before Superman’s advance showtimes took the crown, hinting at potentially huge opening weekends for the two superhero properties. The MCU film is tracking between a $125 million to $136 million opening weekend. Superman could take the crown for the biggest opening weekend of 2025 at a potential $175 million opening weekend.

Yet $90 to $125 million is nothing to sneeze at. Depending on how high the three-day weekend gross is, Jurassic World Rebirth could come out ahead of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and MCU films like Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*. It would also be one of the biggest Fourth of July opening weekends of all time. However, the steady decline in opening weekends across the Jurassic World franchise suggests that Rebirth won’t rule the summer box office. It could be seen as a disappointment, where history repeats itself, like when Jurassic Park III showed that even the historic dinosaur franchise isn’t unstoppable.
