‘Wednesday’ Season 2 Release Schedule

Wednesday is back for more macabre fun as Season 2 makes its way to Netflix almost three years after the first season was released. The supernatural mystery comedy continues the story centered around Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), based on the character created by Charles Addams and featured in many movies and the original 1964 series The Addams Family. She’s back at Nevermore Academy, the high school for outcasts, where she will face more dangers, unique characters, and non-traditional coming-of-age challenges. It’s one of the most anticipated returning shows this year.

What to Know About Season 2

Netflix

At the end of Season 1, Wednesday figured out not only the identity of the Hyde monster terrorizing the school and killing people, but also the identity of its Master, who was orchestrating the whole thing (and why). While Wednesday came close to dying herself, she was saved by her new friends as well as the ghost of Goody, her long-time ancestor (also played by Ortega). Headed home for school break and content that the Hyde and Laurel (Christina Ricci) were gone, Wednesday was ready for a break before beginning the new school year.

In Season 2, Wednesday returns to Nevermore Academy, this time joined by her brother Pugsley (Ordonez), who has his own challenges to deal with as an outcast among the outcasts. Her parents also visit more frequently, much to Wednesday’s chagrin. Now deemed a hero by other students, Wednesday has a tough time dealing with all the attention and disgusting adoration. When new dangers and challenges arise, however, she finds purpose again. It’s up to Wednesday to protect those who are important to her, or at least simply stop the bad guys.

Several actors are reprising their roles from season one, including Ortega, Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia), Luis Guzmán (Gomez), Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley), Victor Dorobantu (Thing), Emma Myers (Enid), Fred Armisen (Uncle Fester), Joy Sunday (Bianca), and Hunter Doohan (Tyler). Luyanda Unati-Nyawo reprises her role of Deputy Ritchie Santiago, now as a series regular, while Jamie McShane will return in a guest-starring role as Sheriff Donovan. Hynes White will not be returning as Xavier.

There will be many new characters as well, including Joanna Lumley as Grandmama Hester Frump and Lady Gaga as the “mysterious and enigmatic Rosaline Rotwood,” who is described as a “legendary Nevermore teacher who crosses paths with Wednesday.” Other guest stars include Christopher Lloyd (The Addams Family), Thandiwe Newton (Westworld), and Haley Joel Osment (Happy Gilmore 2). Steve Buscemi (Boardwalk Empire) will play Principal Barry Dort, and Anthony Michael Hall (Reacher) has been named in an unconfirmed role.

Is There a Trailer?

Yes, there’s a trailer for the second season of Wednesday. The main trailer shows that Wednesday is in for some danger or, as she would put it, a delightful treat. But she’s also declared a hero at the school, the person who saved the day and the lives of all the outcasts who were being hunted.

According to Netflix Tudum, co-showrunners and executive producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar describe Wednesday’s journey this season as being “darker and more complex as she navigates family, friends, new mysteries, and old adversaries, propelling her headlong into another year at Nevermore.”

From fiery birds to cemeteries, monsters, and ghouls, a standout storyline in the trailer is that one of Wednesday’s psychic visions spells the potential end for her friend and roommate Enid (Myers). It’s likely the season will focus on Wednesday doing her best to prevent her joyful and annoying friend from meeting a devastating end.

There’s even more than just a two-minute trailer. Netflix Tudum also released the first six minutes of the season, which shows Wednesday being held captive by a maniacal serial killer, played by Osment. But it’s Wednesday who sought him, not the other way around. She has wanted to take him out since she was a little girl. Though he captures her, with the help of Thing and her psychic abilities, Wednesday manages to break free and put him through torture as she smiles at his pain.

“Wednesday Addams is here,” she advises in one scene of the main trailer. “That’s Addams with two Ds, like ‘padded room.’” Yep, Wednesday is back.
