Marina Bay Sands – SingaPop! 60 Years of Singapore Pop Culture

Held at the ArtScience Museum, SingaPop! is a multimedia exhibition celebrating six decades of Singaporean pop culture. Curated by cultural icon Dick Lee, the exhibition highlights how immigrant communities shaped a uniquely Singaporean identity — often referred to as the “rojak spirit” — through a dynamic blend of heritage and creativity.
Structured across five immersive chapters, the exhibition explores key influences from music, fashion, food, film and everyday slang. Visitors can expect familiar cultural touchpoints, from kopi breaks and Kit Chan’s ballads to the rise of Singlish, National Day Parades and iconic figures like Kumar and Rahimah Rahim. Presented by the ArtScience Museum and mm2 Entertainment with support from IMDA, SingaPop! is a candid reflection on what defines Singapore’s identity — and how it continues to evolve. This exhibition encourages visitors of all generations to reflect on the people, stories and traditions that shape life in Singapore, offering an engaging look at how pop culture mirrors the nation’s growth.
Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art at National Gallery Singapore

In line with Singapore’s 60th anniversary, National Gallery Singapore has launched the first phase of its new long-term exhibition, Singapore Stories: Pathways and Detours in Art. Set within the revamped DBS Singapore Gallery, the exhibition brings together over 200 artworks and artefacts from the National Collection as well as institutional and private loans. The display traces the evolution of Singapore’s art scene from the 19th century to the 1960s, highlighting how artists have responded to themes such as colonialism, identity, urbanisation and globalisation.

Organised into four sections, the exhibition begins with Market of the Tropics, which presents visual depictions of colonial Singapore as a hub for trade and cultural exchange. Community and Self explores local film and fine art as reflections of Singapore’s social fabric, while Imagining Nation focuses on art created during the nation’s independence movement, including key works by Georgette Chen, Liu Kang and Chua Mia Tee. The final section — Seeking Connections — looks at how global influences shaped local artistic styles, featuring Chen Wen Hsi’s five-metre-long Gibbons (1977), recently conserved with support from the Bank of America Art Conservation Project.

An award ceremony is scheduled for late 2025. The festival also launches The Sweet Collective, a charity dessert box curated by CUT, Maison Boulud, Origin + Bloom and WAKUDA. Additionally, diners across seven signature Marina Bay Sands restaurants can opt for specially created desserts under the “A Sweet Step Forward” initiative, running from 10 August to 7 September.

At the “Giving Marketplace”, 16 local non-profits and social enterprises will showcase handcrafted goods and lifestyle items, while the “Play for a Cause” game links interactive fun to food bundle donations via The Food Bank Singapore. Food pop-ups by Black Tap, Bread Street Kitchen, Origin + Bloom and RISE will raise funds for AWWA’s transitional shelter programme. The event will also feature live performances, with local stars including Glenn Yong, 53A and Jive Talkin’. Beyond fundraising, Marina Bay Sands’ team members will engage in various volunteer efforts throughout August — from trishaw rides for seniors with Cycling Without Age to community sewing projects with the Singapore Red Cross.
