Brian Cox Joining Dexter: Resurrection Proves the Show Isn’t Slowing Down

Dexter: Resurrection was a high point for the 18-year-old franchise, following the poor reception to its original series finale and the tepid response to Dexter: New Blood.

The title might be on the nose, but Dexter: Resurrection really did revive the franchise.

The shift to New York City changed the game for Dexter, as he became embroiled in a world where some of the elite hosted parties featuring killers.

By Dexter: Resurrection Season 1 Episode 10, the titular killer managed to get out of the stickiest of situations, with some intel to boot.

We heard a lot about The New York Ripper and how his grip on the city had everyone terrified for a spell.

It was obvious that the teases would amount to something significant, and we can finally put a face to the name.

Deadline reported this week that Brian Cox (Succession) was joining Dexter: Resurrection Season 2 in the role.

Even better? Brian is on board as a series regular, so Dexter will have a new villain to tussle with for the entire season.

And, in case you didn’t pay attention, the name of the New York Ripper is Don Frampt.

Brian Cox is the Next Dexter: Resurrection Bad Guy

If the series is committing to a new overarching villain each season, it’s a smart way to keep things fresh.

Dexter has been aggressively trying to right his wrongs, and a part of that means fixing his relationship with his son, Harrison.

There was much emphasis on their broken bond throughout Dexter: Resurrection Season 1, and I dare say it will be at the forefront of the show going forward.

Dexter will need to use every trick up his sleeve when he comes into contact with more killers.

He escaped by the skin of his teeth when he went against Leon Prater and his wicked network of killers, but something tells me that Don will be more unpredictable.

For one, he’s one of the few serial killers who have managed to keep their identity a secret.

Dexter will be able to use the knowledge of his murderous past to his advantage, but there’s a fine old chance that Don will be prepared for his arrival.

If Leon had a file on Dexter, there’s every chance Don did too — or at least knew enough to prepare.

Leon Unknowingly Gave Dexter Keys to the Kingdom

Thinking about it, everyone who worked with Leon is probably sweating pretty heavily after what happened in New York.

Brian has played his fair share of wicked men in the past, but a notorious serial killer takes the cake.

Don has the potential to be the best Dexter villain since Trinity.

The Dexter franchise has had a spring in its step since it was brought back from the brink, and it seems like the creatives are going in the right direction with the second season.

If they can keep the casting, plot, and stakes on point, then the show should be in for another stellar season.

With so much uncertainty in the TV landscape right now, Dexter: Resurrection can’t afford to lose momentum.

The best thing Dexter: Resurrection can do now is stay this good.
