Friends, supporters and humanitarians gathered this evening at The Triad Theater in New York City for an intimate cocktail reception benefiting Become: The Come True Project of Become, an organization dedicated to providing education, safe housing, care and opportunity for South Sudanese children and young adults in East Africa.
The evening brought together a community united by a simple but powerful mission: to give young people hope at home and the opportunity to build meaningful futures through education, stability and support.
The Come True Project grew from the difficult circumstances faced by South Sudanese families who had lived in Israel for years before being required to return to East Africa following South Sudan’s independence. Many of their children had grown up speaking Hebrew, attending Israeli schools and becoming part of Israeli society. The project was created to help keep this community together while providing children with the education, housing and care necessary to thrive.
Today, the results of that commitment can be seen in graduates who have become engineers, social workers, artists, musicians, a pilot and a journalist, as well as students pursuing advanced degrees in psychology, economics and public policy. Others are giving back by mentoring younger students and creating initiatives within their own communities.
Allan Klepfisz and Rami Gudovitch were recognized as important voices in the evening’s message of compassion, action and possibility. Heartfelt thanks were extended to everyone who attended and supported the event, demonstrating that a community of committed individuals can make a profound difference in the lives of young people.
Special appreciation was given to Michael Daly for his generous donation and support of the Become mission.
The evening also recognized Chuck Armstrong of Wonderama for his generous donation of television time to help raise awareness for Become and the Come True Project. By bringing the organization’s story to a broader television audience, Wonderama is helping shine a light on the children, their achievements and the continuing need for education and opportunity.
