Festival of Talent Lights Up Open Jar Studios with an Extraordinary Celebration of Music

On October 3, Open Jar Studios in New York City came alive with an inspiring celebration of music, artistry and individuality as the Festival of Talent brought together an eclectic collection of performers under one roof. Hosted by Steven Byrd, the evening offered audiences the opportunity to discover artists from different musical backgrounds, generations and genres, each bringing a distinctive voice to the stage.

The Festival of Talent was exactly what its name promised: a showcase built around performers and the stories behind their music. Rather than limiting the evening to one particular sound, the event embraced gospel, soul, R&B, pop, jazz and contemporary music, creating an atmosphere of discovery and community.

Among the featured performers was singer-songwriter, actress, film producer and entrepreneur IamTanieka, whose music reflects her Miami upbringing as well as Jamaican and Guyanese influences. Her repertoire includes Suits, Wonder Woman and Slow Movin’, and her artistic background encompasses music, theater, film and performance.

Bronx gospel and contemporary artist Diane Malloy brought a spiritually grounded presence to the festival. Influenced by gospel, ’90s music and neo-soul, Malloy has developed a style that combines faith with contemporary musical expression. Her releases include Please Don’t Go and the Christmas single Remember The King.

Philadelphia soul, R&B and pop artist Denise Weeks added another powerful dimension to the evening. Inspired by legendary voices including Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Anita Baker, Weeks has appeared at the Apollo Theater and on Season 3 of X-Factor USA. Her background as a subway and street performer has also allowed her to bring music directly to audiences in an intensely personal way.

Aja Moyé represented yet another musical direction. The classically trained vocalist and songwriter blends soul, R&B and jazz influences and has performed internationally across Asia, the Caribbean and the United States. Her career highlights include opening for Boyz II Men and Melanie Fiona and performing for President Barack Obama. Her musical collaborations and associations have included an impressive range of established artists and musicians.

International producer, minister, songwriter and musician Kenny Black Jr., known as The Music Machine, brought extraordinary versatility to the festival. His musical world stretches from gospel and soul to hip-hop, pop, classical and country. A multi-instrumentalist whose musical journey began at only three years old, Black has built his reputation around the belief that authentic artistry should never be confined by genre.

Young singer-songwriter Nia Renée represented the excitement of a new generation. A performer since childhood, Renée gained national attention in 2021 as a Top 40 finalist on American Idol. Her story extends beyond vocal ability; music has been an important source of strength throughout her life, and her mission of inspiring and empowering young women gives her artistry an emotional purpose beyond the stage.

What made the October 3 Festival of Talent particularly compelling was the contrast between the performers. Established professionals shared the spotlight with emerging voices, while gospel could coexist with jazz, soul, R&B and contemporary pop. Each artist arrived with a different journey, yet together they illustrated the enormous range of talent working today.

Host Steven Byrd helped bring those different worlds together, creating an evening centered not simply on performance, but on opportunity. In an industry where discovering the next extraordinary voice can happen in an instant, events such as the Festival of Talent provide something increasingly important: a stage on which artists can be heard, seen and remembered.

At Open Jar Studios, the music may have been diverse, but the message was wonderfully consistent. Talent has no single sound, no single age and no single path. On October 3, the Festival of Talent celebrated all of them.
