Fontaines D.C. Tap Rosalía for Collaborative Single ‘Where Is Gone?’

Fontaines D.C., teamed up with Rosalía for a new track, “Where Is Gone?” The song, produced by James Ford, is the third release from the band’s forthcoming LP, Dopamine Chamber, and marks the first artist collaborations on a Fontaines D.C. album.

“I’ve been a fan of Rosalía since her debut album, which was absolutely beautiful,” guitarist Carlos O’Connell said in a statement. “What really excited me was how she was keeping a Spanish tradition of music alive, which in a spiritual way felt akin to what we’ve tried to do with Irish music. For someone with roots in both countries, it’s been beautiful to see. She’s an artist who’s blown me away at every stage since.”

The ballad finds Fontaines’ Grian Chatten and Rosalía trading lines over a moody acoustic strum that repeatedly swells with strings and clattering drums. “I remember when/They held me up against the summertime,” Chatten and Rosalía sing together on the chorus. “And the tears would fall, baby, if you try/There’s no harm in saying, ‘Leave it, let it die.’”

Fontaines D.C. will release Dopamine Chamber, their fifth full-length effort, on Oct. 16 via XL Recordings. The group previously shared two songs from the album, “Marianne” and “Tongue.” Per a press release, Dopamine Chamber‘s material encompasses the news items we see in our endless scroll, including the rise of AI, celebrity gossip, political violence, the existential threat of climate change, and all the gratifying memes they spawn.

“The album itself is a dopamine chamber,” frontman Grian Chatten said in a statement. “You step inside and we test these different mind or mood-altering pieces of music on you.”

Dopamine Chamber was recorded with Ford in various locales, including London, the English countryside, and Palermo, Italy, where Chatten built a DIY booth from mattresses and cushions. “I felt it would be more powerful to leave the hope out and reflect the ugliness honestly,” Chatten added of the tone. “This one needed to feel more like a catastrophic warning.”
