In celebration of Chinese New Year this year, we take a look at some of the world’s most impressive superyachts ever built in China. With the pandemic still casting its shadow on the world, chartering a yacht or in this case, a superyacht, is a way to beat the cabin fever most of us are experiencing. As you are able to control who goes on board with you, this mitigates the chances of contracting Covid.

Ahead, we spotlight 5 top Chinese-built superyachts:

Nero

Arguably the most well-known superyacht built by Corsair Yachts at Yantai Raffles Shipyard in China. The Nero stands at 90.1m and was commissioned as a replica of the 1930s Corsair series. The latter, which was owned by J.P Morgan, owned the title as the world’s largest yacht.

Built and delivered in 2007, Nero artfully intersects the authentic charm of old world glamour with state-of-the-art technology of modern superyachts. Nero was awarded Best Motor Yacht over 75m at the ShowBoat International Awards. After undergoing two major refits, the beaute looks even chicer — it has a swimming pool, two VIP cabins with saloons and a 5.5m side boarding platform that’s perfect for water activities.

Qing

Launched in 2010, as part of the Marco Polo series from the Chinese shipyard Cheoy Lee, this 46m superyacht had recently undergone a refit in 2020. With the captain’s cabin on the main deck forward, this gives the owner a three-room suite aft of the bridge plus open air lounge. At the lower deck, four possible guest cabins are available where one is arranged as a gym with a full en suite. Another offers a built-in daybed that can be converted to a nanny cabin. This superyacht also has a library/cinema which can be an ideal space for a quiet retreat or to catch the latest blockbuster films.

King Baby

Known to hold the title as the “Largest Composite Motor Yacht” to be delivered in China, King Baby was initially built for an American family. The superyacht was built by Chinese shipyard IAG Yachts in 2016 and stands at roughly 44m. It can accommodate up to 10 guests in five cabins, with interiors styling by British designer Evan K Marshall. If you are looking for a family friend charter, then King Baby is the yacht to charter whenever you wish to hold an intimate gathering.

Serenity

Also built by IAG Yachts, Serenity can hold up to 12 guests in its six cabins. All of the rooms are en suites and equipped with entertainment centres. The configurations are as follows: a main deck master suite with port and starboard sea balconies, a VIP suite and four doubles.

The balconies to both port and starboard allow for alfresco coffee and cocktails, a bar located at the centre sits up to six guests. On the sun deck, a jacuzzi with a waterfall is fitted and a wading area aft with round, backlit skylights built into the deck is a very special feature to dazzle guests.

Adastra

A trimaran-type superyacht built by McConaghy Boats for Hong-Kong based shipping baron Anto Marden. This yacht is the most unique of the bunch in this list and was designed by John Shuttleworth Yacht Designs. This yacht is the recipient of the “2013 World Superyacht Award” for most innovative design — it is made for a luxurious ocean voyage.

Despite its large structure, the yacht is surprisingly lightweight as it is made from carbon fibre. The hull consists of resin-infused epoxy with E-glass and Kevlar skins. Its interiors were designed by Jepsen Designs. Able to accommodate up to nine guests, the Adastra’s main deck houses a saloon that features a lounge area, dining table and navigation station. The foredeck is fitted with sunbeds while the aft deck has a sofa and bar area.
