Gospel Artist Miracle GA and Hip Hop Stalwarts Smif-N-Wessun: Divine Legacy

In a recent Live Session interview with our friends at The Hype Magazine, Miracle GA, an inspirational Gospel artist from Brooklyn, New York, and part of the GRAMMY Class of 2024, spoke about his unique journey in the music industry and his recent exciting collaboration with the iconic Hip Hop duo General Steele and Tek aka Smif-N-Wessun for his upcoming release titled “Divine Legacy.” We’re grateful to be able to share highlights from the in-depth conversation, courtesy of The Hype Magazine, which is full of insights into Miracle’s outlook on Gospel music and how his journey evolved based on his serious respect for the genre and its messages. According to Miracle, he didn’t get into Gospel for the excitement…he committed to the genre ONLY after much soul searching and turning his life over to his creator! He also shared an exclusive clip of the trio in-studio creating “Divine Legacy”.

Miracle GA on His Musical Journey

Miracle says, I didn’t grow up in a church environment, but I was heavily influenced by various genres, including Hip Hop, R&B, and dancehall. My love for music led me to join a high school choir, and it was there that I discovered the powerful emotional and spiritual impact of gospel music.

Miracle shared stories of his early days, like winning a dance contest that sparked his interest in performing. A significant turning point for him was when he joined the school choir. That’s when he began to contemplate the deeper meanings of gospel music, which eventually guided him to embrace his Christian faith.

His 2023 breakout song “Bow to the King” set the stage for this next phase of Miracle GA…see the official music video below.

Collaboration with Smif-N-Wessun

The details of how this recording session came about are nothing short of divine because, just ahead of the 30th anniversary of their critically acclaimed debut album, Dah Shinin’Smif-N-Wessun announced the launch of their “Still Shinin’” tour that takes them from Brooklyn to Borlänge, Sweden…they were set to head to London the Sunday after this session!

In brief, Miracle explains how this collab came to be by saying, My collaboration with Smif-N-Wessun on “Divine Legacy” came about through a long-standing relationship with Tek and shared experiences in the entertainment industry. This track is a unique blend of my soulful gospel sound and Smif-N-Wessun’s gritty rap style, delivering a powerful message of faith, resilience, and unity. Hype’s Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Jerry Doby extolls this part of the conversation as one of its most poignant.

Studio Experience

According to Miracle, The song was written and recorded spontaneously in the studio, and we all felt a deep connection and purpose during the process. Both Tech and Steele from Smif-N-Wessun were fully invested in the project, and I emphasized how the track’s creation felt like it was divinely timed and significant.  The results are powerful and Miracle also shares a game-changing personal interaction with Steele during the session.

The Message

“Divine Legacy” is more than just a song; it symbolizes the bridging of genres and cultures, merging the spiritual with the secular. We aim for it to inspire and uplift listeners by sharing a message of hope and divine purpose, says Miracle

His Mission

Throughout the interview, Miracle emphasized his commitment to gospel music and its historical significance, particularly in the African American community. I see my work as a continuation of this legacy, using music as a tool for spiritual and social empowerment, he stated.

As the interview concluded, the pair talked about the upcoming release of “Divine Legacy” and the broader impact Miracle GA hopes to achieve through his music. They also touched on some of Miracle’s future projects, including a potential book and album.
