Platonic Season 2 Episode 6 Review: The Roadtrip From Hell

Breakdowns can be entertaining or heartbreaking. We witnessed a few of each during Platonic Season 2 Episode 6 as almost every character’s life fell apart.

Charlie’s (Luke MacFarlane) midlife crisis has peaked, yet he and Sylvia continued to deny it, insisting he was fine. It made his break more heartbreaking to watch.

On the other hand, watching Will and Katie compare break-up stories as they melted down was entertaining. Who knew it was a competition?

We need more scenes of them interacting with each other. They were hilarious trying to comfort each other and usually putting their foot in it.

Whose Breakup Was the Worst?

Sylvia didn’t think Will should attend a corporate retreat with Jenna, but she had it handled. At least, until Katie came along, hysterical because her ex-husband was having a baby with his much younger wife.

It suddenly became a battle over whose break-up was worse, and Sylvia didn’t have a leg to stand on, since her only break-up was in college.

It was hilarious watching Katie fall apart because she was so focused on the fact that her ex-husband Joe got to have kids again. Forget about the fact that he’ll have to deal with spit-up or dirty diapers again.

There was no reasoning with her, and the person I felt the worst for was Frances, since she tried to concentrate on the road and kept hearing hysterics.

It got even more entertaining when it was only the three adults in the car. Sylvia meant well, but she interjected herself too much. Will wanted his career and his marriage to succeed.

In that respect, Katie understood him better, so it was funny how she climbed in the backseat and they traded secrets about feeling crazy and healing on your time.

Sylvia Falls Off Her High Horse

I love Sylvia, but she often sticks her nose in where it’s not needed. Since Platonic Season 2 started, she can’t decide whether she’s fun-loving and crazy or mature.

While texting at a tavern may be healthier, it can become just as addictive as drinking. At least the beer keeps Will in business.

Her attitude about Charlie was the worst, though. She went from thinking he needed help to minimizing it and thinking it was a stupid male prank.

Will was an expert in messy and knew Charlie wasn’t okay. Naturally, that made things worse, and Sylvia made some hurtful accusations, concluding that her life was the most organized.

Best friends always know the low blows, and saying she had never been divorced hit both of her best friends, who always come to her rescue.

Will looked so at home at that tavern, and Sylvia needed to be taken down a few pegs. It was entertaining when she reached over and stole Will’s burger to shut him up.

She’s not the type to refuse a dare, and that’s why these three are friends.

The Penguin’s Revenge

That stuffed penguin was a piece of work. It was humongous, and it cost $400. However, even life-size stuffed animals wouldn’t fix Will and Jenna’s relationship.

I did think it was a bit much for Sylvia to insist that Katie throw it out the window. Was it funny? Absolutely. But it also stepped over a line and seemed a bit bossy.

Watching the stuffing falling out on Sylvia’s backseat seemed like karma.

That penguin got even worse revenge when a rock hit Sylvia’s windshield as she pulled off the freeway.

I could smell a scam a mile away since that repairman knew everyone in town and wanted his family to get some of their money, and tried to hold their keys hostage.

You gotta love Sylvia. When she realized Charlie couldn’t help, she unleashed all her pent-up frustration on that poor windshield.

I don’t think a legit repair place would have allowed them to leave, but it was entertaining watching them waltz out of there.

We All Fall Down

Sylvia had always depended on Charlie to be the strong and reliable one in their marriage, allowing her to mess up and have him bail her out.

Initially, she tried to get Charlie to get counseling or take time off since she was horrified that her husband broke into a Jeopardy executive’s house to steal the tape and avoid it being played.

It really spoke to Charlie’s fear of failure and wanting to be the ideal provider and husband.

(Apple TV+/Screenshot)

He had dreamed of competing on Jeopardy for years and ended up looking like a fool with his mouth open.

No wonder he kept having nightmares about it. He assumed returning to work would help, but then he had a panic attack.

It was amusing that his appearance on Jeopardy triggered a breakdown.

Watching him pound down the bathroom stalls because he heard the whistling of the Jeopardy theme was heartbreaking and entertaining.

He had lost it and needed help, and when he told Sylvia, she knew she couldn’t burden him with her problem.

They’re about to enter a new normal with Sylvia being Charlie’s rock instead. While she loves Charlie, can she grow up enough to support him fully?

She looked awfully envious about being left out of Will and Katie’s fun to return home and take care of him.
